Stone Bridge that connects Koja Gete and Kojadoi

Flores has a unique bridge that is different from most other bridges. This bridge is made of dead rocks and coral with a length of 680 meters. This unique and exotic Stone Bridge connecting Koja Gete of Pulau Besar with Koja Doi, a small island in Maumere Bay.

The stone bridge was actually built in 1978 by the Kojadoi and Kojagete communities together with the Maumere District Military Command unit (Kodim) in a community service program through the ‘ABRI MASUK DESA’ program. The initiative to build this road emerged when the Military Command Unit observed the activities of children in Kojadoi who had to swim or use boats to swim in Koja Gete. So through a non-military program for village community service (ABRI Masuk Desa), military personnel worked together with the community to jointly build 680m bridge of coral rocks.

With this stone bridge, the community can more easily access Koja Gete Island for various daily economic activities, as well as children can go to school more easily and safely.

Due to its uniqueness and exoticism, tourists visiting Maumere Bay can also get off the boat on Pulau Besar and are invited to take a leisurely walk on this stone bridge to reach the small village on the exotic island of Koja Doi. (adhm)
