Larantuka is an ocean front city, to be the first seaport city where the Portuguese traders and Missionaries approaching the island. Larantuka is now inhabited by the Lamaholot Tribe with strong Catholic influences. You will find so many Catholic symbols and Chapels almost every corner of the city.

Larantuka is always visited by thousands pilgrims from all over the world during the Easter Season. The Pilgrims attending Good Friday and Easter which is different with the most of global Catholic way. Samana Santa is the Portuguese tradition in reflecting the Passion and Resurrection of the Christ. This unique tradition is well maintained by the local Catholic Church up to now.

Heading north to Tanjung Bunga which is full of traces of history the Portuguese traders firstly docked to begin their trading activities in Flores. On this place the Portuguese also firstly named the “Cabo da Flora” from where the name Flores comes from. Besides Catholic tradition the Lamaholot Tribe is still strongly hold on the local culture and tradition and local genius from their ancestors.
